We are currently studying Colonial America and why people during this historical time period had very different perspectives.
We first started researching different explorers and why different countries were sending people to explore the Americas. Next, we studied the three regions of Colonial America: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. We learned about the types of government, resources, and religions that were prominent in those areas. Then we focused on 7 different perspectives of the people that were living during this time. Now we are writing a narrative paper from the perspective of someone who's been living in the colonies for 5 years and has a specific trade. When a new family comes to their colony from England, they are to help them settle. Students are to be using historically accurate information and use their resources to do necessary research. We will also review how to write quotations and to use sensory details.
Our next unit will be the events that lead up the the Revolutionary War, as well as the war itself.

Parent Orientation Night
Hello!
The beginning of the school year is going great! Thank you to those of you that could make it to orientation night. If you couldn't make it, I posted the information in a "flyer".
This year our classroom is more student-centered! I love how well the children are working together on projects and using the technology we have in our classroom. We are continuing to use the 7 habits to focus on improving ourselves and how we work with others. Continue to ask your students about the 7 habits and activities we are doing at school.

Geography
I love group work! This geography unit focuses on being able to label major physical and political features on a map.
We have also been using longitude and latitude to find absolute locations. By the end of the unit, students should be able to use different maps to describe the locations of cultural and environmental characteristics. |
